
Pushpa Misra

Dr. Misra is a fully trained and practicing psychoanalyst, member of the International Psychoanalytical Association Climate Committee, and former President of the Indian Psychoanalytical Society. She is the author of six published books and numerous articles in philosophy and psychology. Her current research centers on the impact of non-human nature on our psyche.
Dr. Misra has a Master’s in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Calcutta and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Rochester. Her Ph.D. dissertation, titled, The Scientific Status of Psychoanalysis, was nominated for the prestigious Johnsonian Prize in Philosophy for its originality and importance and later was published by Karnac Books, London, with the same title. She did her post-doctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh as a Fulbright Fellow and worked as a professor of Philosophy under the Higher Education Department of the Government of West Bengal, and retired as the Principal of Bethune College, Kolkata. Her areas of interest are: philosophy of psychoanalysis, philosophy of science, medical ethics, environmental ethics, Hindi and Bengali literature.
